Overview and Motivation

Lean architecture in an agile world (LAAW) provides a streamlined approach based on the well-understood separation of problem and solutions pace. Several activities provide guidance through the architecture design genesis. You will encounter many well known methodologies and activities within that description. However, it is not intended that you follow all of them. It is more important to understand the essence of each step rather than to follow these steps exactly.

In contrast to comprehensive architecture process descriptions where you have to digest hundreds of pages to get an overview,
LAAW provides guiding steps and cornerstones for a lean and systematic architecture design. Each steps gives you some rationale, an overview about some of the available methodologies and uses one concrete technique as an example.

The Trainer

Thomas Blum is the creator and trainer for this training.

He has more than 25 years of software architecture, design and development experience in international teams in US, Europe, India, and China especially in the medical domain.

The approaches described and practiced in this training are based on many years of practical experience as a lead software architect as well as a trainer of software architects.

Examples of publications he authored or
co-authored (see links below):

The Content

As a software developer or software architect you are faced with many decisions necessary to walk the way from an – often only partially understood – customer idea to an executable architecture which can be realized by agile development teams and deployed to customers.

In small groups using your own projects, we will answer the questions …

  • What is a structured software architecture design approach?
  • Why is that important?
  • How can that help in my daily work as a lead software developer or software architect?

… and walk in depth through all steps of the systematic architecture design approach LAAW.

After the training you will be able to apply a systematic software architecture design approach following LAAW principles in your projects and guide others through the software architecture design genesis.
